Bella understands that if one of them has to die, then Alex should be spared. She leaves her lover to face Absalom. The shadow-man offers her a drug once again. She falls into a coma and experiences what feels like dying. In between Sleep & Death (or maybe elsewhere?), she perceives the Burden of Existence, and faced with the core of her being, struggles. There is a battle. She manages to vanquish her Anxiety, her Fear of Fears. Belladonna wakes up with a life-giving breath.
